Drilling and Lining

Borehole drilling and lining services are essential for creating a reliable and long-lasting water well. Boreholes are deep, narrow holes drilled into the ground to access groundwater. Lining the borehole with a casing helps to prevent collapse and contamination.

about

Borehole Drilling

Borehole drilling is a complex process that requires specialised equipment and expertise. The type of drilling rig used will depend on the depth of the borehole and the geology of the site.

The drilling process typically begins with a site survey to identify the best location for the borehole. Once the location is chosen, the drilling rig is set up and the drilling process begins.

The drilling bit is rotated at high speed to cut through the ground. As the bit drills deeper, a casing is inserted into the borehole to prevent collapse. The casing is typically made of steel or PVC.

Once the borehole is drilled to the desired depth, a screen is installed at the bottom of the hole. The screen allows water to flow into the borehole while preventing sand and other sediment from entering.

About

Borehole Lining

Borehole lining is an essential part of the borehole drilling process. The lining helps to prevent collapse and contamination, and it also helps to improve the performance of the water well.

The type of lining used will depend on the specific needs of the application. Common lining materials include PVC, and stainless steel.

The lining is typically installed in sections. The first section of lining is inserted into the borehole and then grouted in place. The next section of lining is then inserted and cemented in place, and so on.

Once the lining is in place, the borehole is ready to be connected to a water pump and distribution system.

Benefits

Benefits of Borehole Drilling and Lining Services

There are many benefits to using borehole drilling and lining services to create a water well. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Reliable water supply: Boreholes can provide a reliable source of water even in drought conditions.
  • High-quality water: Borehole water is typically of high quality, as it is filtered through the ground as it travels to the water table.
  • Cost-effective: Borehole wells can be a cost-effective way to obtain water, especially in areas with limited access to municipal water supplies.
  • Long-lasting: Borehole wells can last for many years with proper maintenance.

About

Domestic Water Well Drilling

Some of our domestic clients have to have a water borehole as they are not on mains supply, and some choose self-sufficiency.

Whatever your reason for wanting your own water supply, we are your one stop shop!

We will conduct a prognosis - then design, drill and install your borehole - and even if access to your garden or site is restricted, we're confident we can get on site and get your private water supply up and running.

Stages

How does domestic water well drilling work?

The stages usually go as follows:

  1. Drilling commences – usually in 200mm diameter – using air or air mist flush provided by a compressor
  2. Temporary casing is installed as required
  3. Borehole is drilled to required depth
  4. Borehole is installed with Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) approved PVC screen and casing – PVC pipe is 113-125mm diameter
  5. A formation support pack or filter pack is installed depending on the surrounding geology
  6. The borehole is developed by airlifting. The borehole yield is estimated during this process
  7. A sand blinding layer is installed on top of the gravel, followed by a cement grout seal

Save money

Can I cut my water bill with a private water well?

If you use a lot of water and want to cut your water bill, a borehole will slash your costs.

We began working with the agriculture industry over 70 years ago, and continue to serve livestock and arable farmers' water supply needs across the UK.

We also install and maintain water boreholes for homes, factories, golf courses, sports centres, hotels and spas.

Basically, whatever your business, our business is supporting your water and energy supply needs.

We have decades of drilling experience, maintain our own fleet of drilling rigs, and can rapidly respond to all your water supply needs.

Commercial clients include national water supply companies, mineral water and soft drink suppliers such as Coca-Cola, Severn Trent, Ty Nant, Brecon Carreg and Welsh Water.
